Description:
The
state of Nuevo Leon is located in northeastern Mexico and
shares a border with Texas. The state is named after a former
kingdom in Spain and was originally known as Nuevo Reyno de
Leon which means “New Kingdom of Leon.” Nuevo
Leon was founded by settlers from both Spain and Portugal.
Known as the heartbeat that drives Mexico’s economic
development, Nuevo Leon is highly industrialized and boasts
a standard of living that is higher than any other country
in Latin American and even some European nations as well.
The municipality of San Pedro Garza Garcia has the highest
income per capita in all of Latin America. The infrastructure
of Nuevo Leon includes excellent roadways and railroads and
many of these are utilized for exporting produced goods to
the United States.
Monterrey is the capital of Nuevo Leon and is the third largest
city in Mexico. Only 145 miles from the Texas border, this
industrial powerhouse is one of the most “Americanized”
cities in Mexico and is home for many powerful manufacturing
and industrial conglomerates. Throughout the city, visitors
can find mega-malls, fine museums, modern skyscrapers, four
major universities, Mexico’s largest brewery, an aquarium,
the 600 acre Bioparque Nature Park, scores of outstanding
restaurants, and a new convention center.
