Capital:
Oaxaca
State Population: 3,224,270
Description:
Like its neighbor Chiapas, the state of Oaxaca's
population is largely made up of indegenous communities. The
mix of Spanish colonial architecture and vibrant native culture
make the state one the most interesting and charming regions
in Mexico.
The Oaxacan Pacific coastline is home to some of the most
beautiful beaches in Mexico, and the vast majority of the
coast is still undeveloped. There are a number of resort projects
that have recently been completed, and many more are in the
works.
The capital, Oaxaca, is located in the middle of the state
in the highlands of the Sierra Madre del Sur. The city features
a wealth of colonial architecture, Indian markets, and unique
restaurants.
