Driving Rental Cars to Mexico

NOTE: Our Mexican auto insurance only covers rental cars with US license plates, meaning the rental vehicle has to be rented in the US, then driven into Mexico.

Our insurance DOES NOT cover rental cars that are registered in Mexico. So if you fly to Mexico and rent a car in Mexico, our insurance does not work!

If you plan to rent a US car and drive it to Mexico, we can insure you, but you should call our office first: 800-485-4075.

Here is the conversation you need to have with the rental car company before making arrangements for Adventure Mexican Insurance to provide your insurance:

• Are you allowed to take the vehicle to Mexico?
• Are you allowed to acquire your own Mexico insurance? Many rental car companies require that you purchase their Mexican insurance because they charge twice as much as we do (and they make a lot of money doing this).

If you are allowed to acquire your own Mexican insurance, then you need to do the following:

• Pickup the rental car.
• Call our office with the VIN#, and we will write the policy with you over the phone.
• We will then fax or email the policy to you - many of our customers have us fax the policy directly to the rental car company office.
