However - here are some helpful tips on how to obtain the correct rental
car insurance in Mexico from the Mexican rental car company.
As stated above,
Adventure Mexican Insurance can not insure Mexican rental cars. (If
you are renting a US car, then driving to Mexico, click here). However,
as a courtesy, we would like to offer these helpful hints for shopping
for a rental car in Mexico.
1: You will need to get your Mexico Rental Car Insurance
through the rental car company.
2: It will most likely be expensive, but make sure
to get it anyway. Just accept the cost and factor the cost into your
Mexico vacation budget. Do NOT skip the Mexican insurance - otherwise
you could find yourself in jail in the event of an accident.
3: We highly suggest that you get the Full Coverage
insurance (physical damage and theft coverage), and we highly suggest
getting the DEDUCTIBLE WAIVER if possible. The Deductible Waiver means
the deductible is $0.00. So if you crash the vehicle or it is stolen,
you will not pay anything at all (just get on the plane and fly home).
If you do NOT get the Deductible Waiver, you may have a deductible of
10% or some other amount. If you agree to pay a deductible, you could
potentially get involved in endless haggling over what the deductible
is in the event of an accident.
4: Some credit cards claim to provide insurance for
rental cars, but it may take days if not weeks to process your claim
in the event of an accident in Mexico. Your path of least resistance
and best way to avoid nightmares is to just buy the full coverage insurance
and get the Deductible Waiver if possible.
5: Make sure to shop around a little. There can be
large price differences between rental companies and insurance, so it
is a good idea to check with 2 or 3 different companies to make sure
you are getting a fair rate.
6: If possible, use a reputable US brand name rental
company. If things go sour, you may have legal recourse if the parent
company is a US brand.
