WARNING - Please Do Not Drive Through the Night in Mexico - Get a Hotel!

Mexico insurance claim

Every year we see at least one major highway accident in Mexico that is a result of driver fatigue while driving in the middle of the night in Mexico.

If you are about to leave on a long road trip to Mexico, please consider resting during the night instead of driving 20 hours straight.

As a Mexican insurance broker, we see our fair share of Mexican auto insurance claims. Unfortunately, every year, we see one or more heartbreaking claims where vehicles veer off the Mexican highway in the middle of the night. Many of these accidents are due to driver fatigue, and many of the accidents result in fatalities and serious injuries.

At Adventure Mexican Insurance, we do not intend to tell our customers how to plan their vacations. However, we also feel a duty to warn our customers if we see patterns of Mexican insurance claims. Although our Mexican auto insurance is of the highest quality, it is best for everyone if you never have to file a Mexican insurance claim!

During the holiday season, many of our customers drive to Mexico with their families. Understandably, many of our customers want to spend as much time as possible at their destination in Mexico, so they try to get all of the driving done as quickly as possible. For many, this means driving 30 hours or more from the US to southern Mexico without stopping for rest. Even when you are rotating drivers, this can become a dangerous proposition. The highways in Mexico are very hazardous at night due to lack of lighting, and the shoulders on the side of the road are often extremely narrow. When drivers are sleepy, Mexican highways are not forgiving. The smallest veer out of your lane can send vehicles off into the dirt. Needless to say, the transition from paved highway to dirt at speeds of 50 - 60 mph can send a vehicle tumbling.

Please also read our Mexican driving safety pages for more information on driving safely in Mexico.

Our Recommendation - Get a Hotel Room and Get Some Rest!

Ok, so stopping to get a hotel and some sleep may set your schedule back 8 hours and $40-$80, but this should be an easy price to pay to ensure your entire family arrives at your destination safe and sound! Again, we do not wish get involved in your travel plans, but please consider this recommendation.

It is just very painful to hear about these accidents, especially when a few hours of rest could have made a difference.

We wish you safe and happy travels in Mexico.
