Mexican Auto Insurance Coverage Descriptions
Full Coverage or Liability Only Coverage
There are two different types of Mexican auto insurance policies you can purchase through Adventure Mexican Insurance - Full Coverage policies or Liability Only policies.
Full Coverage Mexican Auto Insurance - Includes Physical Damage and Theft Coverage
Full coverage Mexico insurance includes physical damage and theft coverage for your vehicle. In the event that your vehicle is stolen or damaged, this Mexican insurance policy would pay for the loss to your vehicle. This is recommended for any vehicle valued over a few thousand dollars. If your vehicle is financed, then your finance company will require you to purchase Full Coverage Mexican insurance.
Full Coverage policies include:
- Physical Damage and Theft Coverage for your vehicle
- Third party liability coverage (damages you cause to others)
- Medical payments for you and your passengers
- Legal Assistance
- Road Assistance and Travel Assistance (including Medical Evacuation)
Liability Only Mexican Auto Insurance:
Liability Only policies do NOT include physical damage and theft coverage for your vehicle. Liability Only policies fulfill your legal obligation in Mexico to pay for damages you cause to others (some call this your 'stay out of jail pass'), but they do not pay for damages to your vehicle. Liability Only policies are much less expensive than Full Coverage policies, but they are not recommended for vehicles that are worth more than a few thousand dollars in value.
Most Liability Only policies include:
- Third party liability coverage (damages you cause to others)
- Medical payments for you and your passengers
- Legal Assistance
- Road Assistance and Travel Assistance (including Medical Evacuation)
Definitions of Coverage
Physical Damage
This covers material damages to the insured vehicle as a result of collision, overturning, fire, lightning, explosion, natural disasters, and riots. Physical Damage losses are subject to a mandatory deductible - so make sure to review the deductibles of each insurance program. NOTE: Vandalism acts are excluded except for the ACE Platinum auto coverage program.
Allowed to Make Repairs in the US or Canada
All of our Mexican auto insurance programs allow for the insured vehicle to be repaired in the US or Canada. As long as you report the claim while in Mexico, you will be given the option to repair your vehicle in the US/Canada.
WARNING: Not all Mexican insurance companies (not companies we work with) allow vehicles to be repaired in the US or Canada. Stay away from companies who do not allow you to repair your car in the US!
Hourly Labor Rate for Repairs Made in the US or Canada
Although all of our products allow for repairs to be made in the US, you will want to review the exact hourly labor rate that each policy will pay. Example: If the Mexican insurance policy pays $50 per hour for repairs made in the US, but the US repair shop charges $65 per hour - the insured will need to pay the difference in the hourly labor rate.
Many of our Mexican insurance companies such as HDI Seguros, always pay the current labor rate for repairs made in the US or Canada, so you not have to pay any out of pocket expenses for labor rates.
WARNING: Many Mexican insurance companies (not companies we work with) pay extremely low hourly labor rates (as low as only $15 per hour) for repairs made in the US. Beware of companies who do not allow for repairs in the US or who pay very low US labor rates.
Total Theft
In the event that the entire vehicle is stolen, the total theft coverage pays for the loss. Make sure to review the total theft deductibles for each program. Partial Theft is only covered by the ACE Platinum auto coverage program.
Partial Theft
Partial theft coverage is excluded except for with the ACE Platinum auto coverage program. Partial theft covers losses for when only a part of the vehicle is stolen such as, the tires, the door panels, etc. Partial theft losses are subject to the the Total Theft deductible.
Vandalism
Damages due to Vandalism are excluded under all policies except for the ACE Platinum auto coverage. Vandalism losses under the ACE Platinum auto coverage are subject to the Physical Damage deductible.
Third Party Liability
Third Party Liability pays for damages that you cause to third parties.
Example: If you crash into somebody else's vehicle (and it is your fault), the third party liability will pay for the damages that you caused to the other person's car. This coverage fulfills the proof of financial responsibility which is required by Mexican law.
Most of our Mexican auto insurance programs offer combined single limit (CSL) liability amounts. You can select $50K, $70K, or $100K by using the drop down on this page.
Combined Single Limit Liability coverage is more flexible than 'Split Limits' liability coverage. Combined Single Limit provides a lump sum of Liability Coverage which can be applied towards Property Damage or Bodily Injury to third parties. (Most Mexican Liability companies use 'Split Limits' which limit the amount of coverage for Bodily Injury and Property Damage). The ACE Platinum auto coverage offers a higher limits of $100K for property damage, and $300,000 for bodily injury.
Medical Payments
This coverage pays medical expenses for the driver and passengers of the insured vehicle.
Uninsured Motorist Medical Payments
All of our policies will cover medical payments if you are involved in an accident with an uninsured motorist, but the ACE Platinum auto coverage will increase the medical payments in this situation to $15K per person / $40K per event.
Legal Assistance and Bail Bond
All of our Mexican insurance programs automatically include 24 hour Legal Assistance and Bail Bond.
Road Assistance
All of our Mexican insurance programs include Road Assistance. Road Assistance includes towing due to mechanical failure, flat tire, and referral services. All of the ACE policies include the Platinum Travel Assistance which includes rental car for while vehicle is disabled or missing. Read full details of the ACE Platinum Travel Assistance.
