The Surfer's Guide to Baja is Essential for Baja Surf Trips
If you plan to surf in Baja, make sure to bring this book along on your trip!
The Surfer's Guide to Baja is essential if you want to find new and remote surf areas in Baja. It covers over 120 surf breaks throughout the entire Baja peninsula, and it provides good driving directions, road conditions, camping and lodging info, as well as other helpful information specific to each break. Surf spots are often not marked on the roads, so this book is crucial for finding your way to surf breaks you have never been to.
If you do not surf at all, but you do want to find some beautiful remote beaches that no other Baja books discuss - you may want to consider checking this book out. Many of the remote surf spots I visited had campers hanging out who did not surf. They just enjoyed staying at these beautiful beaches (many campsites are free for as long as you wish), watching surfers, and the upbeat energy and comradery of hanging out in a good surf spot. If you do not want to hang out with surfers, this book will get you to the beach, then you can camp a few hundred yards (or more) away from any crowds - it's wide open out there!
How this book works
The Surfer's Guide breaks Baja down into six major regions, and it provides maps and detailed descriptions for all of the breaks within the specific region. This makes the book easy to navigate.
The author's writing style is also fun and appropriate for surf culture, making the book an enjoyable read even if you won't be visiting many of the surf breaks he covers.
