If you came to Baja to shop and party on the beach and hang out in night clubs, then Rosarito Beach is your destination. If you came to surf, then you will be much happier if you continue driving south for some less polluted quality breaks.

If you are in Rosarito Beach and think you may want to do some surfing, then you will have a few miles of breaks to choose from. The areas around the pier are usually workable. There is another break on the south side of town called Rene's - which is named after Rene's Sports Bar - and the break is directly in front of the bar.

Things to consider before jumping in: There is a power plant and a Pemex industrial complex just north of town - who knows what is technically in the water. Many surfers have reported strange smells in the water and have become sick after surfing in this area.

Sorry to be a buzz kill - but if you are looking for quality surf, keep driving south.
