Surfing Popotla - Baja North - Mexico

Popotla is the first nice break you will come to just south of Rosarito Beach. If you are looking for a good left, Popotla could be your spot.

About four miles south of Rosarito Beach, you will see the Fox Studios complex on the oceanside of the highway. Directly south of Fox Studios is a rocky cove. This cove is Popotla, and it can be a nice surf spot when the swell is right. If you are looking for a good left, Popotla is known to be one of the best lefts in northern Baja.

There are a few access points you can choose from. Probably the safest parking option is to park at the private RV/trailer park at the south end of the cove - expect to pay for parking. You can also try to find secure parking in the fishing village on the north end of the cove, but make sure to park where there is some form of security. The beach access is rocky, so bring your booties. Some surfers have reported a bit of a local scene at times, so be aware that locals may be a bit protective of their cove.
