The Moon Baja Book is the Best General Information Baja Travel Book

Moon Baja Travel Book

The Moon Baja Handbook is an excellent resource for planning your Baja trip

I consider the Moon Baja book to be the foundation for planning your Baja adventure. While it is not as specific about campsites, surf spots, maps, and directions as some of the other Baja books, it provides excellent summaries of all of the Baja locations. It is an especially great book for first time Baja adventurers who may not know which parts of Baja they most want to visit.

This is how I use the Moon Baja Handbook

Before leaving on my Baja adventure, I read through the Moon Baja book to re-familiarize myself with the different areas of Baja. Example: While reading about Bahia de Los Angeles, I may see the section about the Sea Turtle Research Station in town. Then I will jot down in my notes to make sure to visit the Sea Turtle Station this time when I visit Bahia de Los Angeles. The book also lists the times when visitors are welcome at the Sea Turtle Station.

The Moon Baja Handbook also lists many other activities such as kayaking, whale watching, scuba and snorkeling, windsurfing, etc, and the book provides names and contacts for vendors who the author has dealt with.

So the Moon Baja Handbook helps you shape the goals and destinations of your Baja adventure. Then once on the road, I use the Baja Almanac for my road map, and the Baja Camping book to find the exact location of my campsite while also referring to the Moon Baja book for tips and activity vendors once I arrive at the destination. The Moon Handbook also provides some campsite information as well as a good list of hotels and restaurants in each location.

NOTE: I am also a huge fan of this book because the new author Nikki Goth Itoi completely revamped the Mexican auto insurance section (pages 410-413). She dedicates nearly 3 full pages to explaining this incredibly important and often confusing topic. Unlike most travel books who shy away from this topic or provide brief inaccurate information, this author gives the subject of Mexican auto insurance the attention and detail it requires. She understands that your Mexican auto insurance decisions could cost you thousands of dollars if you do not make informed decisions about Mexican auto insurance. I must also point out that the Moon Baja Book recommends our company, Adventure Mexican Insurance, as a preferred vendor for Mexican auto insurance!
