Baja's East Cape Offers Some of the Best Windsurfing Conditions on the Planet
The East Cape area from La Paz to San Jose del Cabo is a windsurfer's paradise.
Some of the better known windsurf and kitesurfing areas in the East Cape are La Ventana and Los Barriles. Both of these areas are easy to access, and the towns are very cool too. From November to March, the winds blow consistently between 15 - 30 knots, so you are certain to find great conditions almost every day. The beaches are covered in beautiful white sand, and the water is a magical aqua marine. During the winter, the water gets a bit chilly, so wetsuits are recommended, but the air temp is usually between 70-80 degrees during the day.
This area supports plenty of beach camping, and decent hotels are easy to find as well. There are also numerous vacation rentals available.
The area is extremely laid back and full of tourists and expats. In Los Barriles, most of the locals store all of their windsurfing equipment in small shelters on the beach. They said they have never had any problems with equipment being stolen. It really is a friendly and laid back community.
