Surfing Raul's - Baja North - Mexico
Raul's is not as well known as some of the legendary northern Baja surf spots, so check out Raul's if you want to avoid the crowds.
Raul's is just slightly north of Puerto Nuevo - Lobster Village. If you exit at Puerto Nuevo, go north and Raul's is out past the bluffs. If you are driving from the north heading south, Raul's will be just a little past Las Gaviotas - you will see Raul's restaurant, and the surf spot is past the restaurant. There will most likely be a gate, but someone should be there to let you in - expect to pay about $5 to get through the gate, then drive down to the end of the bluff - and there you are. You can also camp on the bluff for just a small fee.
As a Mexican auto insurance provider, we always like to recommend surf spots with secure parking. As long as you pay to park within the gate, Raul's has a reputation for being a secure spot to park your car.
Raul's may not be in the epic category of northern Baja surf spots, but there are a number of all around good breaks here. It performs well on southern and WNW swells, and is best during medium to high tides. If you are looking to get away from the crowds and attitude, Raul's is usually a relaxing environment where you can focus on your surfing rather than navigating the 'scene'.
